About The DC Beer Guide
From DC-Beer Wiki
Welcome to the latest release of the Washington, DC Metro Area Beer Guide. We are in the process of converting it to a WiKi to allow it to be more easily kept up-to-date. There is still much work to be done so if you want to help, please send an email to the admins at this site!
Our purpose is to provide residents and visitors of the Washington, DC metro area with an overview of local places to buy and drink beer. The goal is not to provide extensive reviews - there are many other sites that offer such, but give enough facts to allow readers to find places they think they might like to visit. This site is the collected knowlege of many people. If you'd like to be one of them, if you see something out of place here, just volunteer to help out!
The DC Beer and Brewing community is, despite the ever increasing population of this ever expanding metro area, still a fairly close group. People tend to know the other people in the community. We are aiming to provide a service to this community, as DC-Beer the mailing list has over the years. We are not doing this for any financial gain. This guide is a volunteer effort.
Acknowledgements
This document was originally created in the early 1990s in ASCII form due to numerous requests for information about beer establishments in the Washington, DC area on the newsgroup alt.beer. After it was finished, the DC-Beer administrator, Dan Brown, asked about placing it on his Web site. Before doing so, many additions and edits were made by various members of that group. The file grew to the point that it became difficult to maintain as an ASCII file and yet there were many useful pieces of information that were missing.
Around 1995, Thomas Aylesworth started the process of converting it to HTML, and, along the way, updated it to include more information about each establishment listed. He was helped immensely by many others, including the entire DC-Beer group. Some individuals deserve to be thanked by name, including:
Everyone who contributed to the original ASCII version, including Tim Artz, Dan Brown, Jim Busch, Keith Chamberlin, John DeCarlo, Samer Farha, Charlie Gow, Margaret Hyland, Bob Kosman, Lynne Ragazzini, Mark A. Stevens, and others.
